Brinkman Lecture

 

Every year a special lecture, named after the founder of the Nijmgen ENT-department is prepared.

In 2027 Professor Daniele Marchioni, MD will present the Brinkman Lecture, entitled “TBD”.

 

 

Professor Daniele Marchioni is Full Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy, and Director of the Department of Otolaryngology at the University Hospital of Modena.

His clinical and scientific activities are primarily focused on advanced otologic and lateral skull base surgery, with additional advanced expertise in anterior skull base surgery and head and neck oncology. His work combines microscopic and endoscopic surgical techniques, with a particular interest in advancing surgical approaches to complex middle ear and lateral skull base pathologies.

Together with Professor Livio Presutti, he pioneered the development of transcanal endoscopic ear surgery in Italy, contributing to the introduction of minimally invasive approaches for middle ear cholesteatoma and lateral skull base lesions. His scientific contributions include the development of the endoscopic transpromontorial approach to the internal auditory canal and innovative endoscopic techniques for selected facial nerve tumors.

His current clinical and research interests are particularly directed toward advancing lateral skull base surgery through the integration of microscopic and endoscopic approaches, with the aim of improving surgical access and optimizing functional outcomes.

Professor Marchioni is a founding member and current President of the International Working Group on Endoscopic Ear Surgery (IWGEES).

He is co-author of the textbooks Endoscopic Ear Surgery and Endoscopic Lateral Skull Base Surgery, published by Thieme, and has authored numerous scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals. He is actively involved in international surgical education and regularly serves as an invited lecturer and faculty member at scientific congresses and advanced surgical training courses worldwide.
